Product Description
It's Liverpool on New Year's Eve. Mike an ex-singer, takes over as manager of a seedy nightclub owned by local criminals and quickly discovers that his predecessor has disappeared, leaving him with a string of nasty surprises. In company with Bernard, a bouncer who has bounced once too often and Cheryl, the kitchen help who wants to be a singer, Mike finds that he has on his hands a pop group who can't play, a bad gay comedian, a nervous breakdown calling himself a magician and even more worrying, a double booking for New Years Eve of two boisterous groups of old age pensioners who have hated each other all their lives. One group is a second generation Irish pensioners' social club in fancy dress for a non-existent prize, who include a drunken blind ex-boxer, Paddy Lewis. The other group of pensioners come from a Protestant Orange Lodge and are led by Billy McCracken, a one-time gunman who has been forced to give shelter to an Ulster terrorist on the run from the police. Paddy, the ex-boxer and Billy are old adversaries and while two separate units of police converge on the club, the Catholic and the Protestant pensioners fight a war of insults, missiles and songs which ends in a pitched battle in the men's toilets where Billy and Paddy fight each other one last time.
